VALLEY GARDENS MIDDLE SCHOOL
This art installation celebrates Valley Gardens School's 50th anniversary and features the Golden Bear at its centre. The roaring bear represents the teaching of Courage from the Seven Sacred Teachings, as well as strength, resilience, the school itselt, and the wider community it belongs to.
The imagery in the installation draws from the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, focusing on balance, connection, and the cyclical nature of life. The moon, sun, and Medicine Wheel are all connected to one another and to the land, with roots extending deep into the earth to represent grounding, growth, and the relationships that bind us. These connections speak to balance between themes such as night and day, land and sky, and the individual and the community.
Beadwork flowers are featured as symbols of care and remembrance. The orange flowers honour the Every Child Matters movement, while the red berries acknowledge MMIWG2S+. Together, these elements reflect responsibility, resilience, and the importance of caring for one another.
This installation is intended to honour courage, balance, and our relationship with the land and each other. It celebrates the history of Valley Gardens School, as well as the community it is connected to.
