Elder - windsor park
This mural is a tribute to our Elders and the sacred teachings they carry. At the center stands an Elder holding a smudge bowl with sage, standing before a sacred fire, a symbol of connection, prayer, and community. The mural moves from night to day, representing the balance we find between darkness and light, rest and renewal.
Across the top, an archway of sweetgrass frames the scene, a symbol of Mother Earth's hair, braided and used in ceremony for cleansing and gratitude. On either side of the sacred fire, mirrored plants grow in stages, from a small sprout to a full flower rendered in Métis beadwork style. Their shared roots connect deeply into the earth, showing that true growth happens when we are grounded in community and ceremony.
The fire, too, has roots reaching into the land, symbolizing that our spiritual strength must stay rooted in where we come from. This mural speaks to honouring Elders, sacred medicines, and the fires that keep our teachings alive. It's about resilience, growth, and the beauty of being rooted together in ceremony, in culture, and in community.
