Darwin school

This mural was created to bring a sense of warmth, welcome, and connection to the entrance of Darwin School. Filled with imagery from nature and the landscapes of Treaty 1 Territory, the piece reflects the importance of staying connected to the land and to one another.

At the centre of the mural is the Medicine Wheel, connected to the earth with roots extending throughout the landscape. The roots symbolize growth, interconnectedness, and the importance of grounding ourselves within the teachings of the wheel in all that we do. Learning and community become stronger when they are rooted in relationship to the land.

The imagery of night and day reflects the balance and cycles that exist throughout life and within nature. The rivers flowing throughout the mural represent the waterways of Treaty 1 Territory and our connection to this place. All of the natural elements and animals in this mural work together to create a space that feels welcoming, grounded, and alive with teachings from the land.

The goal of this mural is to brighten the school and create an environment where students, families, and staff feel welcomed the moment they arrive. This art reflects the idea that schools are not only places of learning, but places where relationships, identity, and understanding are nurtured over time.
