Community - windsor park
This mural celebrates community, belonging, and the ways we care for one another. At its center, a group of seven people, an elder, adults, and children, sit together around a sacred fire. They are in ceremony, and share food and stories, with the Elder holding a talking stick, symbolizing respect, listening, and connection. Behind them stands a large tree whose branches stretch protectively over the group, connected to a Medicine Wheel that reminds us of balance, learning, and the cycles of life. The tree also represents growth, the kind that happens when we are supported by community, teachings, and the land.
The scene is set in a landscape of grass and flowing water, representing the Forks and the heart of Treaty 1 Territory here in Winnipeg. Blueberries form an archway around the group, symbolizing abundance and thankfulness. Strawberries, the heart berry, appear on each end of the mural and around the doorway, representing love, connection, and the strength of community. Echinacea and sage, both medicines from this land, are reminders of healing, growth, and resilience.
The mural wraps gently around the community room, welcoming everyone who enters.
It reflects the spirit of this space, a place of learning, generosity, and togetherness. A place where students and community members can gather, grow, and take care of one another in balance with the land and with love.
